Coenraad Vermaak Safaris

City/Town: Pietermaritzburg

Have been supporting an underprivileged Crèche in the KZN Midlands for many years. Clients often take time out from their hunts to drop off much need protein from harvested animals, other foodstuffs and school essentials. These donations are always welcomed by both management, children and their parents, as these facilities receive very little to no support from government.

Since 2014, WOW Africa has assisted the nearby rural community with funding for the two schools on its border. Projects include food for the children, school clothes, winter clothes, repair of school structures, upgrading of the school kitchen and donations in the form of prizes for the pupils at their year-end prize giving ceremony. With the help of clients, we have contributed almost $10,000 towards the children and the school.

Pictured below is the school that WOW Africa will be targeting for 2016; here, Grade 1– 7 learners share three classrooms with a kitchen. Our aim is to replace the mud school before the end of 2017 with a proper school, as well as construct an outside kitchen for the children. WOW Africa would like to thank all past clients for their donations in this regard.

Abraham Kriel

City/Town: Nylstroom (Modimolle)

After the Boer War and the flu of 1918 many children were left orphaned. As a result of the draught in 1933 parents could no longer take care of their children. No more children could thus be accommodated at Abraham Kriel Langlaagte.

The Church Board of the Dutch Reformed Church in Nylstroom (Modimolle) saw the opportunity to help children in need. The municipality decided to donate 20 ha of ground for the erection of a children’s home in Nylstroom (Modimolle). Building started in 1958 and the first children moved in in 1959. Supported by numerous members.

Antjie Krog Trust

City/Town: Thabazimbi

The Spitskop Special Needs School opened its doors on 11 February 2013 as an independent Special Needs School. The school provides care, stimulation and education to 42 children, some of whom attend the Academic Centre which specifically caters for children with academic potential but who sadly lack the ability to fulfil the high demands of normal schooling.

The only special needs school in the area

The other component of the school is to provide more intensive therapy and skills development programs to those children whose limitations, if unaddressed, will prevent them from progressing to self-sustainable adulthood. Supported by numerous members.
